Originally built in Maine, this wood-frame building was shipped around the Horn in 1851 to become the first office of the San Diego Union newspaper. Now it’s been restored to its original condition, as it was when the first newspaper was printed in 1868. View the original Washington press in the print room and see the editor’s office. Free admission.

The shop makes hundreds of pounds of salt water taffy each day, and individually wraps each piece for its flock of customers. The old-fashioned treats are considered a staple of Old Town. The shop also makes homemade fudge and chewy licorice, right before your eyes. Twenty-five flavors of stick candies. They even have sugar-free treats!
